Utah women to host Utah St. in WNIT tourney
Utes finished 15-15 on season; Aggies enter game with a 21-9 regular season record
SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah women's basketball team has received an invitation to the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Utes will face Utah State in the Huntsman Center on Thursday, at 7 p.m., in the first round.
Utah is 15-15 overall. The Utes have made five appearances in the WNIT (1979, 1984, 1999, 2007 and 2010). Utah is 3-8 overall in the tournament. The Utes went 1-1 during each of their last two appearances in 2010 and 2007. In 2010, Utah defeated Saint Mary's before falling to eventual WNIT champion California in the second round.
Utah State is 21-9 on the season in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Utes are one of five Pac-12 teams to make the WNIT. Oregon State, Washington, Arizona State and Colorado were also selected to take part in the tournament.
