Keep yellow buses

I was most distressed upon reading of the Jordan School District Board of Education's vote to destroy an icon of the past, i.e. the yellow school bus. The Jordan School District is turning the yellow school bus into a mobile ad. That familiar yellow will be compromised with Coke, Pepsi, Pizza Hut and McDonald's ads.

We may even see ads for attorneys and car dealers, thus fading that famous yellow that we have become endeared with. Worse is that the board voted unanimously to destroy the quintessence of the yellow school bus as it represented America's dedication to the transportation of America's schoolchildren from any location and any culture to a school to ensure their opportunity to prepare for their future.

This is for a minuscule amount of the obtained advertising fee — .02 percent of the transportation's annual costs. Where were the dissenting voices who should have said, "No. There are certain traditions we must preserve." What is next?

I am sure many will consider this assault upon the efficacy of an American institution an insult of an icon that has been recognized as one of the great hallmarks of America's greatness.
