James J. Ryser, Jr.1918 - 2012As it does to every man, death came on March 2, 2012 to James Joseph Ryser, Jr. Beloved and respected by many for his honesty, integrity, humor, humility, and devotion to family and Christ's teachings. Jim is remembered for his non-materialistic, generous, selfless spirit and his garden, which he cultivated to share with others. He was truly a remarkable man. He knew that he was a son of God and strived to live in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ. He served in many ward and stake positions in the LDS Church, including a mission in Zimbabwe, Africa with his eternal companion, Elizabeth. Jim enjoyed his assignment at the Salt Lake Temple recommend desk for 7 years. Born November 10, 1918, second of seven children, to James J. Ryser Sr, and Hilda Schanz in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1940. He served in the US Army Air Corps for 4 years during WWII. He worked for the Utah Tax Commission, Utah Oil Refining Co, and as a self-employed accountant. Married in the Salt Lake Temple to Elizabeth Kirkham on September 4, 1947. They have four children, Randall (Kathryn), Robyn (Peter) Nicholas, David (Toni), Rebecca (Kevin) Jolley, 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Lucille. He is survived by three sisters: Berniece Stewart, Pauline Graham and Belle Strand and by two brothers: Charles and Karl. Memorial services will be at the Monument Park 2nd Ward 1005 South 2000 East, Salt Lake City, UT on Saturday, March 10 at noon. His wife and family will greet friends and neighbors from 10:45 to 11:45 prior to the services. There will be no viewing.
