John Floyd Campbell1920 ~ 2012John F Campbell, 91, of Orem, Utah passed away peacefully at his home in Orem on February 25, 2012.He was born in Gridley, CA on October 28, 1920 to Thomas and Luella (Cole) Campbell and he was the youngest of 9 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Gridley High School and attended Chico State College until 1941 when he was drafted into the US Army Air Corps. He served in the military as a band and orchestra director. John was an accomplished musician and director. He was united in marriage to Patricia Linde in 1941. They were sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. They had three children, Peter, Susan and Margaret (Peggy).After John's military service, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department and became a police officer for the rest of his working career. He joined the 56 -piece LAPD band where he played trombone and then became the director of the band. The band played for many LA Police functions, school assemblies and parades. The band played for many dignitaries including two US presidents. His last years as a police officer were spent working out of the Chief's office performing band duties. He retired in 1978 and moved from Los Angeles to Fallbrook, CA where he became involved in the local music society, tennis club and other community interests.Preceding him in death were his mother and father, 8 siblings, his wife, Patricia and his second wife, Moya. John is survived by 3 children, Peter (Virginia) Susan, Margaret, 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at the 14th Ward, 1100 E 400 North in American Fork, Utah on Monday March 5th. There will be a Family Gathering at 10:00 AM with the Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
