Elitism in education

Elitism is a live and well in the state of Utah when it comes to public education. I fail to understand the reasoning of a number of our state legislators who are so fully embracing the private and charter school idea. Funding for our Utah schools is barely, if even, keeping up with growth. I have learned that there is a bill in committee seeking tax exemption status for donations to private and charter schools.

Once again, Utah education is caught in an economic situation where funding is at rock bottom and struggling just to keep up with the projected growth rate. We have elected officials who are more than willing to siphon away education tax dollars for the benefit of charter and private schools, or in the very least bestow vouchers upon those desiring to attend private or charter schools. Do these elected officials truly represent the majority of the students in Utah?
