Obituary: BRYAN, WILLIAM NEWELL

William Newell Bryan1929 ~ 2012William Newell Bryan, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 19, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah.Newell was born July 2, 1929, in Nephi, Utah, to Brent R. and Lela V. Bryan. He married Gwen LaRae Christensen on November 23, 1957 in Elsinore, Utah. He was a member of the LDS Church. He served his country in the US Navy from 1947 to 1953. After his naval career, Newell graduated from the University of Utah in Electrical Engineering. He was employed with Ireco Chemicals for 30 years as an Electrical and Inventive Engineer, with significant contributions to the design and manufacturing of explosives.Newell's hobbies include inventing, building, and architectural design. The famous Bryan tree house still stands strong for grandchildren today. He had an incredible work ethic that he instilled in not only his children, but many others. He was a good man of honesty and integrity. We will all miss him.Newell is survived by his wife of 54 years and his seven children: Brenda (Gordon) Hoskins, Brent (Patty) Bryan, Kathy Bryan, Matthew (Susan) Bryan, Robert (April) Bryan, Karen Bryan, Karol (Geoffrey) Dean; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother Bruce K. Bryan. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John H. (LaVell) Bryan.The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Garden Terrace Care Center for their dedicated and loving care of our father. Services will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012, at 1:00 pm at the LDS Ward Chapel located at 5235 South Wesley Road, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may visit Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Friday from 11:45 am 12:45 pm at the church prior to services.
