Betty Southam Pedersen Kramer1930 ~ 2012"I'd Rather Be Sunning"Betty Kramer, age 82, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, February 19, 2012. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister was surrounded by family and friends. Betty was born in Salt Lake City, January 7, 1930 to Lawrence and Ellen Marsden Southam. She graduated from East High in 1947. She began her 60+ year career as a beautician at ZCMI, where she made many life-long friends. She married Roger Pedersen in September 1951. They were blessed with four cherished daughters and delightful memories of family vacations and fun times together. They later divorced. In 2002, she married the love of her life, Richard C. Kramer. They enjoyed nine glorious years together.She was a wonderful mother, raising her four daughters wisely and well. She was unique, independent and kind - a warm, loyal friend and neighbor. Betty was known for her immaculate gardens and her love of all things beautiful. She adored animals and welcomed many family pets into her home. As a member of the LDS Church, Betty served in Primary and Relief Society where she loved her association with the other sisters. Throughout the years, she associated with her friends at the Cottonwood and Fort Douglas Hidden Valley Country Clubs where she enjoyed golf, bridge, sunbathing and socializing. Betty was legendary for her unique style, fashion flair and love of entertaining. Blessed with boundless energy, she traveled the world and never ceased learning. Betty is survived by her devoted husband Richard and his son, her sister Evelyn (Bruce) Mills, brother-in-law Courtney Kruger, daughters Brooke (Drew) Gordan, Shelly (Jim) Cardall, Heidi (Cary) Petterborg and Cydnee (Robert) Nelson. She will be fondly remembered by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Lowell Southam, and sisters Bonnie Henry and Ruby Kruger.Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, 2012, noon at the Holladay 4th Ward, 4917 Viewmont St., Salt Lake City, UT. Friends and family may call Thursday evening, February 23, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, UT, and from 11:00-11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.Since our Mom was so devoted to education, the family suggests donations to the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church or The Alzheimer's Association, in lieu of flowers.
