Obituary: HEUSSER, LA NAE BUTTERS

La Nae Butters Heusser19242012La Nae Butters Heusser, 87, a loving, capable, giving friend and mother died February 15, 2012 after a long illness.She was dear to innumerable friends. In the years since her son moved to various states for his business, they became family to her. Born in Smithfield, Utah, December 8, 1924 to Leo Welch Butters and Doris Geary Butters, she spent the majority of her youth in Preston, Idaho. She was in pep club, the band, and served as a student officer prior to graduating from Preston High School in 1942. She then attended Utah State University and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Wherever she went she had fun as well as getting straight A's. December 8, 1943 She married Blaine Raymond Heusser, later sealed in the Sale Lake Temple. Blaine died July 18, 1970. La Nae was employed at Independent coal and Coke Company for ten years and then at the University of Utah for thirty-one years. Bright and resourceful. decidedly independent, La Nae spent her personal and professional life doing for others. First in student affairs in the Union Building and then with the Alumni Association where she was assistant to the president and helped to make every occasion a celebration. She was in contact with many alumni and cultivated cherished friendships. She served in many LDS church auxiliary positions and had a firm testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She also served a Church Service Mission as a hostess at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. La Nae was a Pink Lady at the L.D.S. Hospital and a member of the Arthritis Foundation, She was also a member of the board of the U of U Retired Staff Employees Association and the University of Utah Women's Club. Every place she was a welcome and thorough participant. La Nae loved being for 60 years part of a study group as well as teaching young people in her ward who returned her affection. Her myriad of friends will miss her interested, gracious way of being there--always.La Nae cared for her aging mother in the last years of her life and was preceded in death by her mother and father.She is survived by her son, Burke Robert Heusser who lives in Minnesota.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 18 at the Foothill 7th Ward Chapel 2215 Roosevelt Avenue at 11:00 a.m. There will be a visiting time there from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. preceding the funeral.
