CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Attorneys for a former University of Virginia lacrosse player are returning to court to defend him against charges he killed his ex-girlfriend.

George Huguely V's lawyers are due back in court Thursday to continue chipping away at medical testimony that prosecutors say implicates the Chevy Chase, Md., man in the May 2010 slaying of Yeardley Love. The suburban Baltimore woman and Huguely had a volatile relationship that prosecutors say ended in Love's death when Huguely battered her in her Charlottesville apartment.

An autopsy concluded she died of blunt force trauma. Defense attorneys presented their first witnesses on Wednesday after the prosecution rested its case.

Huguely has pleaded innocent to charges of first-degree murder and other counts.
