NEW YORK — A dog named Giorgio Armani has taken its first winning steps at the Westminster Kennel Club show.

Giorgio Armani is a xoloitzcuintli (shoh-loh-eets-KWEEN'-tlee) and is among six new breeds at America's most prestigious dog show.

More than 2,000 dogs are entered and competition began Monday. The best in show will be picked Tuesday night.

Giorgio Armani drew cheers from the fans crowded around the ring when he was picked as the best of his breed. His breed is called a "show low" (SHOH'-loh) for short and is in the nonsporting category. He turns 2 this month and his win came at a fitting time — it's Fashion Week in New York City.
