Police kill father to end deadly shooting rampage

NAPA, Calif. (AP) -- A man fatally shot his 19-year-old daughter and her boyfriend before he was shot and killed by police, authorities said.Police don't know what prompted the shootings Saturday at the home of Silverio Espinoza's estranged wife, Napa Police Lt. Steve Geoghegan said.

Espinoza, 49, showed up at the house about 12:15 a.m. and knocked on the door. After his 10-year-old son opened the door, Espinoza burst in and immediately shot and killed his daughter Anjelina Espinoza, Geoghegan said.

Police say Espinoza began beating his 46-year-old wife with a revolver. He then went to a different room where he shot and killed 21-year-old Phillip Lester, his daughter's boyfriend.

Meantime, the wife's 28-year-old son was hurt when he dove out a window. His 26-year-old wife and their 6-year-old daughter were shot.

The son was treated and released, his wife remained in serious condition Saturday, and their daughter was in critical condition at a hospital.

Mistake with eye drops leaves Clinton red-eyed

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., (Reuters) -- President Clinton poked himself in the right eye while trying to put in some drops, breaking a few blood vessels and giving himself a red-eye look, the White House said Saturday.

"Yesterday, putting eye drops in, he poked himself with the applicator and burst a couple blood vessels. It doesn't affect his vision, it doesn't hurt," said White House spokesman Barry Toiv.

Clinton used the eye drops to combat allergies, Toiv said. The president is also contending with a hoarse voice, caused by allergies and multiple speeches during a two-day tour of Arkansas and Florida, Toiv said.

Former 'NewsRadio' actor must continue treatments

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Former "NewsRadio" actor Andy Dick will have to continue drug treatment and attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings if he hopes to have drug charges against him thrown out.

The charges stem from a May 15 car crash in which Dick toppled a utility pole near the Hollywood Bowl.

Dick, 33, pleaded guilty Aug. 26 to charges of possessing cocaine and marijuana and was ordered to undergo a two-year drug diversion program. If he completes the program successfully, Judge William R. Chidsey Jr. will consider clearing him of the charges.

At a hearing Friday, Chidsey ordered Dick to come back for another review June 9 and to maintain contact with his probation officer.
