Utah State track and field: Daniel Howell breaks school record in 5000 meters
Senior distance runner Daniel Howell bested his own school record time in the 5000-meter run (14:04.25/12th-place) at the FloTrack Husky Classic in Seattle on Friday as the Utah State track and field teams collected one event title and 13 Top-10 finishes at three different meets.
Sophomore Kylie Hirschi captured her second-straight 800-meter title (2:12.56) at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., and high-flying freshman Rachel Orr cleared 1.73m (5-08.00) for the second time this season to claim third place in the high jump.
Joining Orr in the high jump was fellow freshman Mariah Thompson, who placed eighth, and junior Bri Campbell, who took home 10th place on a judge's decision. Thompson and Campbell each jumped over the bar at 1.63m (5-04.25).
Senior Katelyn Heiner also finished eighth in the 400-meter run with a personal-best time of 55.09, while junior Aubrie Haymore finished close behind in ninth place with her personal-best time of 55.77.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team also found the Top 10 as it placed sixth with a time of 3:45.19, which ranks No. 7 all-time in Aggie indoor history, with the team consisting of Heiner and Haymore along with juniors Hollie Bosworth and Bailee Whitworth.
For the USU men at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, junior Tyler Killpack ran a personal-best time of 1:54.34 in the 800m to garner fifth-place, while sophomore Silas Pimentel placed seventh and 10th in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter race with times of 6.78 and 21.31, respectively.
Pimentel now ranks No. 2 in the 200-meter race in Aggie indoor track and field history. Fellow sophomore AJ Boully finished in 10th place in the 400-meter race with a personal-best and Western Athletic Conference season-best time of 48.30.
