TEMPE, Ariz. — Utah signee Dallin Bachynski made quite an effort to be at Thursday's game at Arizona State. The 7-footer drove approximately 700 miles to watch his future teammates take on his older brother Jordan and the Sun Devils.
The gesture meant a lot to Jordan, who posted a double-double of 12 rebounds and 11 points in ASU's 57-52 victory.
"I love having him here," he said. "I love being with my brother. He's a great guy."
Shortly after Dallin arrived on Wednesday, the brothers got their competitive juices flowing by playing "Call of Duty." Jordan, a sophomore, is eager for their competitiveness to make it back to the basketball floor in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
"We're very competitive," he said. "I'm going to drive him to be better and he's going to drive me to be better. I'm really excited for it."
Dallin, who signed with Utah after returning from an LDS Church mission in Croatia, won't join the Utes until this season is complete.
"I think he's really bored in Utah. I mean, he's trying to do as much as he can with the team but because he's not officially on the team for another couple of months, there's not much for him to do," Jordan said. "So he's more than welcome to come and stay with me and my wife and sleep on our couch and play with our dog."
Jordan, a 7-foot-2 center who has come on strong in recent weeks, expects his 7-foot brother to do the same at Utah.
"Oh yeah. He's a little bit different of a player. He's got one of the most pure strokes I've ever seen. He shoots the ball really well," Jordan said. "I'm more of an inside touch. He's got the outside touch and he's working on the inside touch. He's a great player and I can't wait to play against him."
LOCKETT RETURNS: ASU guard Trent Lockett, who leads the Sun Devils in numerous statistical categories, returned to action after missing six games with an ankle injury.
"He's a good player and they beat us," said Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak, who noted that having an isolation player like Lockett always helps.
The junior finished with 12 points and attempted 11 free throws.
