TEMPE, Ariz. — Poor shooting and accompanying scoring droughts have proven costly for the Utah Utes in the first half of Thursday's game at Arizona State.
The Utes made just 5-of-24 shots from the field (20.8 percent) over the first 20 minutes and trail the Sun Devils 23-18 halftime. They made just one basket over the final 7:01 after holding a 13-8 lead. ASU had missed eight of its 11 shots at the time and turned the ball over nine times.
Chris Hines gave Utah an early 3-0 lead, but it failed to ignite any lengthy momentum. The Utes made just one of their next 10 shots over a span of 8:01. ASU capitalized on the situation and pulled ahead 8-5.
Utah responded with an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead, but ASU fired back with 15 straight points to seize control again.
