Zakaria Mohamed named Youth of the Year by the Utah Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs
SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs named Zakaria Mohamed 2012 Youth of the year.
He was born and raised in a refugee camp in Kenya and relocated to Salt Lake City three years ago. Since becoming a member of the Capitol West Boys & Girls Club, he has become an engaged leader, serving as a Leader in Training and an active member in the Keystone Club.
The Youth of the Year award recognizes members for sound character, leadership skills and community service.
He looks forward to being the first person in his family to graduate from high school this year. He plans to attend Weber State University and study law enforcement.
He will receive a $1,000 scholarship and will represent the state of Utah in the Pacific Region competition later this year.
