WEST VALLEY CITY — Police were searching Wednesday for a man who shot another man following an altercation at a fast-food restaurant.
The incident began around 1:15 a.m. in the area of 3450 West and 3500 South when two men walking down 3500 South were "accosted by some men that had just picked up some food at this restaurant," West Valley Police Lt. Scott Buchanan said.
A McDonald's restaurant is located at that address.
It is believed four individuals, including a female driver, were in the Chrysler 300 M when an argument broke out.
"This verbal confrontation resulted in a fight out here on the sidewalk and one of the … males produced a handgun," Buchanan said, referring to someone who was in the car. "The two men on the sidewalk then fled on foot."
One of the suspects fired shots at the two men, hitting one of them in the leg. Despite the injury, Buchanan said the man is in stable condition. Police are looking for the Chrysler, which they said had chrome rims.
Buchanan said it did not appear as though the victims and suspects involved knew each other. The shooting is not believed to be gang-related.
