Flying J parent to donate $3.5 mil to USU, U.

FJ Management Inc. will donate $3.5 million to Utah State University’s Jon M. Huntsman School of Business and the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business.

OGDEN — FJ Management Inc., which sold its Flying J gas stations to Pilot Travel Centers in 2010, will donate $3.5 million to Utah State University’s Jon M. Huntsman School of Business and the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business.

“This gift will help hundreds of students accomplish their educational dreams,” Crystal Maggelet, chief executive officer of FJ Management, said in a statement. “It is my hope that those who receive this scholarship will apply the same spirit of entrepreneurship and independence in their lives that my father demonstrated."

Each school will receive $1.75 million, which is divided into $1 million for career service centers and $750,000 for scholarships

“I applaud FJ Management for its generosity in making higher education a priority,” Taylor Randall, dean of the David Eccles School of Business, said in a statement. “This donation will personally touch the lives of many university students for generations to come.”

Students of USU’s business school will have new opportunities in helping them pay for their eduction, Douglas Anderson, dean of the Huntsman School of Business, said in a statement.

“The advantages born from these scholarships will reach far beyond the classroom as they help build future business and civic leaders,” Anderson said.

FJ Management, previously known as Flying J Inc., was originally an oil company that focused on the network of travel plazas in North America. After emerging from bankruptcy in 2010, FJM became a holding company for financial services and energy businesses.
