Kearney Takes Dual Moguls Gold at the FIS Freestyle World Cup
With a dual moguls victory at Deer Valley, Hannah Kearney set a new Freestyle World Cup record with 14 victories in a row. Kearney beat out a hard charging Justine Dufour-Lapointe in a head-to-head race for her first win on the Deer Valley dual moguls course.
“By far this is the largest crowd on the world cup circuit and having them here in Utah at Deer Valley cheering hard for every American skier helped to propel me to the win,” Kearney said.
Sharing the podium with Kearney was Canadian Justine Dufour-Lapointe in second and fellow teammate and American Heather McPhie in third.
“Justine pushed me hard down the course,"said Kearney. "The goal is to ski fast and ski clean and that’s just what I did tonight. To ski five clean races and get through the finals is such a challenge, so to win for my first time here at Deer Valley makes this win so amazing.”
In the men’s dual moguls, Canada’s Mikael Kingsbury’s winning streak ended at six, after Russian Sergey Volkov beat him out in the upset of the evening. Volkov shared the podium with fellow Russian Andrey Volkov.
With a course length of 248.5 m, Deer Valley features one of the toughest moguls course on the circuit.
“This is such a great event for Deer Valley,” said Emily Summers, communications manager at Deer Valley. “Hosting this event is one of our ways to give back to the freeski community for everything that freeskiing has done for Deer Valley, we thrive on being a mecca of freestyle skiing”
The 2012 FIS Freestyle World Cup brought 18 countries together, featuring 62 female and 88 male competitors.
