BOZEMAN, Mont. — Utah State’s women’s tennis team collected a split on its Montana trip, turning things around with a 6-1 win over Montana State Saturday morning.
USU improved to 2-3 on the young season, rebounding from a hard-fought 4-3 loss to New Mexico on Friday in Bozeman. MSU fell to 1-2 with the loss, as Utah State spoiled Montana State’s home opener.
The Aggies stuck with the same lineup in doubles competition starting with junior Jaci West and freshman McKenzie Davis beating Portland’s Charlotta Hjalmarsson and Paulina Lopez Trevino, (8-4). Senior Kristina Voytsekovich and junior Romina Nedakovic defeated Wena Tsan and Ellie Crum, (8-5). Seniors Brianna Rowland (Harris) and Julie Tukuafu fought hard, but fell to Andrea De La Torre and Gabi Villegas, (8-7).
Similar to the men’s team’s match on Saturday, the women won all but one singles match. West took on Hjalmarsson, beating her in two sets, (6-2, 6-3). Davis defeated Trevino, (7-5, 6-1), while Voytsekovich beat Crum, (6-1, 2-6, 6-2). Nedokovic took down Tsan, (6-4, 6-3). Tukuafu had a rough match and fell to De La Torre, (2-6, 2-6). Rowland (Harris) wrapped up the meet with a two-set win over Liana Bates, (6-2, 7-5).
After a few days to recover and practice, the Aggies will head to Idaho State for their next match at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9.
