SALT LAKE CITY — Too many turnovers doomed the Utah basketball team Saturday in a 76-58 loss to Oregon State at the Huntsman Center.
The Utes turned the ball over a season-high 23 times, which the Beavers converted into several easy baskets.
With the loss, the Utes fall to 5-17 and 2-9 in Pac-12 play. With the win, OSU improves to 15-8 overall and 5-6 in league play.
Cedric Martin scored 19 points, while Jason Washburn had 15 points and eight blocked shots for the Utes.
Jared Cunningham led Oregon State with 20 points and Devon Collier with 14 points. Joe Burton had eight points and 11 rebounds.
The game was pretty even through the first 10 minutes before a 13-0 run in the first half put the Beavers up 29-15. By halftime the Beavers led 38-25.
In the second half, the Utes cut the lead to eight on two occasions before the Beavers pushed the lead back to 17. Then the Utes made a late rally to cut the lead to 68-57 with 2:47 left, before the Beavers increased the lead to 18 by the end of the game.
The Beavers won the rebound battle, 39-29.
The Utes head back out on the road with games at Arizona State Thursday and at Arizona Saturday.
