SALT LAKE CITY — A rash of turnovers has the Utah basketball team looking up on the wrong end of a 38-25 deficit to Oregon State at halftime Saturday at the Huntsman Center.
The Utes have turned the ball over 13 times in the first half, nearly as many as they average in a game. Meanwhile, the Beavers have committed just four turnovers in the game.
Utah played almost even with the Beavers through the first 10 minutes of the first half, but the Utes had one of their usual scoring droughts, going more than four minutes without a score as OSU went on a 13-0 run to open up a 29-15 lead with 5:19 left.
Jason Washburn and Cedric Martin both have nine points to lead the Utes. Chris Hines, who scored 20 points Thursday night against Oregon, missed all four of his field-goal attempts and has just one point in the first half.
The Beavers are led by Jared Cunningham with 10 points and Devon Collier and Joe Burton with eight apiece.
The two teams are shooting about the same 39.5 percent for the Beavers to 38.9 for the Utes. However, OSU has a big advantage in rebounding, 22-15.
