PARK CITY — A University of Utah student who died Sunday after falling from a ski lift at Canyons Ski Resort was identified Monday as an Idaho Falls woman.
Asha Davenport, 19, died after suffering a seizure on the lift and falling to the ground 30 feet below, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office. Detective Ron Bridge said Monday that the fatal accident was not the result of any equipment malfunction.
Resort officials reported that Davenport was on the High Meadow chair lift with friends when she fell around 11:50 a.m. Sunday. The ski patrol responded quickly and Davenport received care on a medical helicopter en route to a hospital, but was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
The High Meadow lift is a ski slope used by beginners. The lift is as low as 15 feet off the ground to as high as 50 to 75 feet.
