Utah State track and field: Aggies tally six top-5 marks at Washington State's Cougar Indoor and Multi's
PULLMAN, Wash. — Utah State men's and women's track and field teams collected six top-five marks on the first day of Washington State's Cougar Indoor and Multi's in Pullman, Wash., Friday.
Sophomore Chari Hawkins won both the high jump and long jump during the pentathlon competition to walk away with second-place at 3,610 points, while senior Jen Schiess registered a personal-best 3,139 points to place fifth.
Senior Lindsey Spencer and sophomore Keeley Eldredge both performed well in the weight throw as they finished fourth and fifth with tosses of 16.58m (54-04.75) and 16.48m (54-01.00), respectively.
Sophomore Bryce Hall led the Aggie men during the first day of competition as he placed second in the weight throw at 17.92m (58-09.50), while senior Damian Szade jumped a season-best 6.95m (22-09.75) to claim third in the men's long jump.
Other results for the USU women included freshman McKenzie Johnson and senior Kali Hamby finishing seventh and eighth in the women's pentathlon with points totals of 2, 914 and 2,709 respectively. Freshman Melanie Heslop threw a personal-best 15.85m (22-00.00) in the weight throw, which was good enough for seventh place.
Other results for the Utah State men included freshmen Jason Allred and Dallas Singley taking home seventh and eighth in the pole vault, clearing 4.40m (14-05.25) and 4.25m (13-11.25), respectively. Junior Kenny Hamlett competed in the long jump for the first time this season and finished 10th with a mark of 5.93m (19-05.50), while senior Philip Noblesits was No. 9 in the heptathlon with 2,597 points after four of the seven events.
Saturday's action at the Cougar Indoor and Multi's will kick off at 10 a.m. with the final three events of the men's heptathlon and will end with the women's 4x400m relay at 4:20 p.m. All times subject to change.
Aggie track and field teams will continue the season as they compete at Boise State's Bronco Classic on Feb. 4 in Nampa, Idaho at the same Jackson Indoor Track that will also host the WAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-25 and the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-11.
