SALT LAKE CITY — A Brigham City doctor convicted of 37 counts of illegal drug distribution surrendered his medical license Friday.
While an appeal is pending on his August conviction in federal court, Dewey MacKay was sentenced to prison last month. However, he has yet to report to jail.
Documents filed in U.S. District Court state that due to MacKay's criminal conviction for prescribing controlled substances to patients, his retirement from practicing medicine and the upcoming expiration of his medical license, MacKay has surrendered his license to practice as a physician and surgeon, as well as his license to prescribe medications.
MacKay, 64, relinquishes rights to those licenses for a 10-year term, according to court documents. The licenses were set to expire at the end of this month.
