SALT LAKE CITY — Families affected by Alzheimer's disease gathered at the state Capitol Wednesday to urge passage of a joint resolution that would deliver a plan of action to combat the growing prevalence of the disease.
If adopted, SRJ1 would engage state agencies, the private sector and philanthropic groups to make Alzheimer's disease a top priority in the state.
Reports from the Alzheimer's Association have indicated that Utah will experience the highest growth rate of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias among the nation in the coming decade. Prevalence is projected to increase by 127 percent.
The five-year plan was drafted following a series of statewide meetings where public input was collected. It aims to provide support to caregivers, as well as educate the public on proven prevention and early detection measures.
