Man robs store to get money to buy XBox, police say

CLEARFIELD — He told police he was sick of being broke and wanted an X-Box.

So, investigators say, 18-year-old Dustin Ferguson went to a Chevron, 1716 S. Main Street, about 8 p.m. on Jan. 17 and robbed the store.

"He was wearing a brown coat and red bandana over his face. He entered the business and gave clerk a note saying, 'I have a gun, give me your money,'" said Clearfield Assistant Police Chief Mike Stenquist.

No gun was actually seen.

Based on a tip, police were able to identify the man. They found him Tuesday at his grandmother's house in Layton, Stenquist said.

"(He told officers) he was sick and tired of not having any money and wanted an XBox and felt that was the quickest way to get money," he said.

Ferguson allegedly bought an XBox with the stolen money, but investigators had not recovered it as of early Wednesday afternoon.

Ferguson was arrested for investigation of robbery.

While police say Ferguson has been forthright about some things, he refuses to give detectives the name of the getaway driver from the gas station robbery. Investigators were looking Wednesday for a white 1990s model Chevrolet, possibly  a Cavalier, Stenquist said.

He said Ferguson has been living at several locations, frequently moving between friends, his grandmother and mother.
