Hot-shooting Utes blast ASU 64-43

SALT LAKE CITY — It was another lopsided game at the Huntsman Center on Saturday afternoon, but this time Utah was on the winning side.

Two days after getting blown out by 26 points to Arizona, the Utes blasted Arizona State, 64-43.

With the victory, the Utes improved to 5-14 on the season and 2-5 in Pac-12 play, while the Sun Devils fell to 6-13 overall and 2-5 in league play.

The Utes came out on fire, hitting their first five shots, and took a quick 12-0 lead over the Sun Devils, who missed their first four shots. By halftime, the Utes led 38-21, thanks to 57.7 percent shooting in the first half.

In the second half, the Utes scored the first 11 points, as ASU went eight minutes without scoring. The lead got as high as 28 at 51-23 with 9:29 left, before the Sun Devils started finding the basket.

Cedric Martin led the Utes with 17 points, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, while Chris Hines scored 14, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Freshman Kareem Storey added 12 points and six assists, and Jason Washburn had 10 points and led the Utes with six rebounds before fouling out with 4:32 left.

ASU was led by Carrick Felix with 13 points, and Jordan Bachynski and Kyle Cain with 10 points.

For the game, the Utes shot 52.5 percent from the field and52.9 percent from 3-point range. ASU managed just 38.6 percent overall and 20 percent from 3-point range.

The Utes will now head for southern California, where they'll play UCLA on Thursday night and USC on Saturday.
