POCATELLO, Idaho — For the first time in the 2012 indoor track season, the Wolverines brought their full team to an event at the Snake River Invitational Saturday, and UVU indoor track coach Scott Houle liked what he saw.

"BYU (last week) was a good meet for us to get our feet wet, but this meet the field was better and the kids came and competed at a high level," he said. "It was a better meet for us in many ways, and the competition was great for us also."

Along with Utah Valley and host Idaho State, Utah State and Weber State competed in the event.

UVU's Megan Burr had a phenomenal day by placing first in the 60 meter (7.76 seconds); 200 meter (25.08) and 60 meter hurdles (8.92).

"Each week we are going to see that because she's more mature and she's physically stronger and she's seeing that she's an elite athlete," Houle said. "She is finding her way."

In addition to Burr, Zandrea Nelson had a nice meet by winning the 400 meter (56.33) and placing second in the 200 meter (25.29).

For the men, Allah Laryea-Akrong won the 60 meter (6.79) and the 200 meter (21.93).

"Allah has good races," Houle said. "He's been battling some back issues, so it's nice to have him back. He's our leader, and we're guaranteed some points from him."

Along with Laryea-Akrong, Tim Rowberry (1:51.72) and Cliff Nielson (4:22.84) won the 800 meter and mile, respectively, and Rusty Jones won the high jump (2.00 meters).

In other notable performances, Jessie Lingwall (60 meter, 3rd, 9.30); Aleina Eisenhauer Winger (3rd, mile, 5:12.98); the team of Nelson, Lexie Esplin, Hannah Groom and Ali Shields placed third in the 4 by 400 relay (4:00.63); Makira Kuan-Rackham (2nd, high jump, 1.62 meters); Esplin (2nd, long jump, 5.40 meters); Skylar Burningham (2nd, 400 meter, 49.71); Chris Dorton (2nd, mile, 4:25.42); Nielson (3rd, 3,000 meter, 8:50.53); Michael McPherson (3rd, 60 meter hurdles, 8.49); the team of Marc Weaver, Jacob Brydson, Rowberry and Michael Ashton (2nd, 4 by 400 relay, 3:22.58).

The Wolverines are back in action Jan. 21-22 at the Boise State Invitational.
