Former Utah State volleyball player Chelsea Fowles to play professionally in France
LOGAN — Former Utah State volleyball standout Chelsea Fowles has signed to play professionally with the Laon Volley Club in Laon, France, which is located about 90 miles northeast of Paris.
Fowles will play her first match on Saturday, Jan. 21, and the team’s season runs through the end of April.
“I’m excited to be able to continue my volleyball career,” said Fowles. “To be able to play professional volleyball in France is an unbelievable opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”
Fowles (Hollister, Calif.) was a four-year letterwinner at Utah State from 2007-10 and helped lead the Aggies to a 24-9 record and the NCAA Tournament during her senior season. As a senior, Fowles was named to the Western Athletic Conference’s all-tournament team as USU upset third-ranked Hawaii in the championship match.
Fowles, who earned second-team all-WAC honors as a sophomore and was named the league’s Freshman of the Year in 2007, ended her Utah State career as the school’s all-time leader in assists with 4,520. Fowles also ranks third all-time at USU in service aces (118), fourth in sets played (440), ninth in digs (781), and 10th in block assists (258).
“We are excited that Chelsea will be able to continue playing volleyball,” said USU head coach Grayson DuBose. “She is in for a unique experience and we are looking forward to watching her progress as a player.”
