MURRAY — A Murray house fire Monday caused an estimated $80,000 in damage and displaced two families.
Fire officials said the fire in a home at 791 E. Deerfield Road began in a basement that was being rented out as a separate apartment and spread to the upper floor. The call came in around 2 p.m.
"There was a significant amount of both smoke and flame damage both in the basement and in the main level of the house,” said Mike Dykman, battalion chief with Murray Fire.
The two families who live in the home are staying with relatives in the meantime, he said. An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way, Dykman said, and they have yet to determine a cause.
