SALT LAKE CITY — Average retail gas prices in Salt Lake City fell 6.1 cents per gallon in the past week, to $2.92, according to SaltLakeGasPrices.com.
At the same time, the national average price for a gallon of gas went up 0.8 cents to $3.23, the website operated by GasBuddy.com reported.
Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com, said Utahns can expect gas prices to start climbing.
"We think it's probably going to move incrementally higher from now through the springtime," Lakoski said. "Every year, we expect to see the lowest prices in the fourth quarter."
Salt Lake City's gas prices were 19.3 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago, but 29.4 cents per gallon lower than last month.
The national average price for gas has decreased 8.9 cents per gallon since last month, but is 21.3 cents per gallon higher than last year at this time.
