SALT LAKE CITY — Attempted murder charges have been filed against a Murray man arrested last week for severely beating his girlfriend.
Daniel Jay Folsom, 49, of Murray, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court. Folsom was arrested and booked into jail Friday.
Murray police responded late Thursday night to a report of a woman who had been severely beaten. The 45-year-old woman had fled to the home of a neighbor, who called police.
The neighbor told police the woman "appeared severely beaten" and had told him Folsom was "out of control," according to the charges.
Folsom, who has a history of domestic violence, had "a large amount of blood" on his clothing when taken into custody, the charges state.
The woman suffered bleeding and blood clots in her brain as a result of the beating, according to the charges. She underwent emergency surgery and currently is on life support, the charges state.
Folsom is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on $1 million bail.
