MILLCREEK — An employee of Wasatch Internal Medicine was charged Friday with stealing nearly $350,000 from the clinic.

Eric David Christensen, 46, of South Jordan, is facing second-degree felony theft charges after the clinic paid him for the purchase of 51 personal computers, warranties for those computers, and servers, according to charges filed in 3rd District Court on Friday. A doctor who ordered an audit on the business discovered that of the 51 computers, only three had been provided to the office and the warranties didn't exist.

Christensen was hired to purchase and maintain the clinic's information technology systems. When confronted, Christensen admitted that he had been "overcharging the clinic for six to seven years and that he had falsified records to cover up what he had done," the charges state.

Bank records supplied to investigators indicate that between Dec. 11, 2007, and April 6, 2010, 77 checks totaling $398,808.53 were deposited into accounts belonging to the Christensen's company, Netlogic Systems, Inc., but only $49,637.80 of that money was paid to businesses that sell computers or related products.

Court documents state that the remaining $349,170.73 was spent by Christensen on personal expenses or in other ways.
