Sleigh rides, other activities part of Elk Festival in Hyrum

HYRUM, Cache County — There’s something for everyone at the annual Elk Festival.

The event will be held at the Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management area Saturday Dec. 17. Activities including making Christmas ornaments and a bird feeder out of a pinecone are free.

Horse-drawn sleigh or wagon rides through the meadow are also being offered. Tickets are $5 for people 9 years old and older and $3 for children 4 to 8 years old. People are encouraged to bring binoculars and to dress for all types of weather.

Food is not available at the ranch, so bring food you can eat at the ranch lunch room. The ranch is 18 miles east of Hyrum on state Route 101.

The range will begin is horse-drawn sleigh or wagon rides through the middle of hundreds of wild elk on Dec. 16. Rides will be available Fridays and Mondays from noon to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Tickets must be purchased at the visitor center before 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, the sleigh rides will not be running and the visitor center will not be open. Visitors can still bring binoculars and view the elk from a distance, though.
