Driver of car that hit Kearns house, killing two, charged with automobile homicide

KEARNS — The driver of a car that crashed into a house Saturday afternoon, leaving two passengers dead, has been charged with two counts of automobile homicide, Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the 4 p.m. crash that killed Erica Youngblood and her husband, Michael Dye, Hoyal said. Both were passengers in the car driven by her brother, Christopher Youngblood.

Hoyal said Christopher Youngblood was driving south on 5600 West near 5400 South when witnesses said the vehicle began swerving, crossing over into the northbound lanes befoe hitting a cement wall and then a house at 5585 W. Highwood Drive.

No one was in the home at the time.

Erica Youngblood was in the front passenger seat of the car. Dye was in the back seat and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Christopher Youngblood was transported from the scene in critical condition but released within several hours.

He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on two counts of autombile homicide.
