An article in the Jackson Hole News & Guide is recounting the amazing survival of a Mormon mother and seven teenagers after a horrific crash more than 200 feet down an Idaho canyon on Nov. 5.
Holly Galbraith, 35, of Jackson, and her seven teen passengers were driving home on Highway 31, just east of Swan Valley, Idaho, from Especially for Youth, an event of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rexburg, Idaho, when the Chevrolet Suburban hit a slick spot on the highway and Galbraith lost control. The SUV flipped end-over-end into a canyon and landed on its wheels some 200 feet below on top of rocks in the creek.
Miraculously, everyone survived. Trapped for hours at the bottom of Pine Creek Canyon, the eight injured passengers sang LDS hymns while rescuers worked to save them. It took almost five hours to get all of them out of the canyon.
“We realized we were so blessed,” Galbraith told the Jackson Hole News & Guide. “We were so blessed, it didn’t matter how much pain we were in or how scared we were. ... Our Heavenly Father is there looking out for us.”
