High school football: North Sevier breaks streak with win at South Sevier
It's been 13 games since the North Sevier Wolves tasted victory in football. The Wolves finally were triumphant Friday with a 21-14 come-from-behind win against their cross-county rival South Sevier.
South Sevier runningback Garrett Johnson rushed 45 yards for the end zone while Rams quarterback Brayden Palmer hit Wyatt Argyle on a 13-yard strike for the Rams' first-half scores. Wolves running back Cory Johnson scored on a five-yard dive for the Wolves' only first-half score and the Rams went into halftime with a 14-7 lead.
Wolves quarterback Joey Edwards hit receiver Mac Porter in the third quarter on a 16-yard pass for the Wolves' second score. The PAT was no good, and the Rams led 14-13 going into the fourth quarter. Joey Edwards threw his second touchdown pass of the night to wide receiver Trent Hampton on a four-yard strike late in the fourth quarter. Joey Edwards scored a two-point conversion for North Sevier, and the Wolves ended the game with a 21-14 victory.
North Sevier Head Coach Ryan Higgs was excited with the win. "I am so proud of our kids; they never quit," he said.
The Wolves had 205 passing yards with 125 yards on the ground. South Sevier had 88 passing yards with 169 yards rushing. Cory Johnson led the Wolves with nine tackles, while Patrick Baker had six tackles for the Rams.
The Wolves will travel to Gunnison on Friday while South Sevier hosts Enterprise.
