PLEASANT GROVE — An interesting twist developed Thursday in the case of two Pleasant Grove carjackings that occurred within minutes of each other on the morning of Aug. 7.
Pleasant Grove police confirmed that the prime suspects are the Dougherty siblings, two brothers and a sister from Florida who made national news last week after a high-speed chase and shootout with police in Colorado.
They were captured Aug. 10 on a freeway south of Pueblo, Colo., after being placed on the FBI's most wanted list. The three siblings were wanted for a cross-country crime spree that began in Florida and now appears to have had a stop in Utah.
In both of the Pleasant Grove carjackings, the victims had guns pointed in their faces and in one instance shots were fired in the air. One of the victims reported the getaway car was a white Subaru with Colorado plates — the same type of vehicle the Doughertys were caught driving in Colorado.
Before their arrest, one of the siblings allegedly fired an AK-47 at police. All three — Ryan Dougherty, 21, Dylan Dougherty, 26, and Lee Grace Dougherty, 29 — are now being held in a Colorado jail.
Pleasant Grove police aren't giving any specifics about what the siblings were doing in Utah or what their motive may have been for the carjackings.
