SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police want help identifying possible witnesses to a stabbing death near Pioneer Park on July 6.
Police say the occupants of three vehicles that appear on a surveillance video taken around 11:30 p.m. may have "unknowingly witnessed dealings related to the murder."
The vehicles were all headed south on 400 West and turned east onto 400 South around the time that Emmett Schad, 27, was stabbed. Utah Transit Authority police officers later found the victim near the TRAX station at EnergySolutions Arena, and he was transported to a hospital where he died from his wounds.
Schad and two to three other people had walked from Pioneer Park to the TRAX station by EnergySolutions Arena, 340 W. South Temple, police say. They also want to hear from anyone in the area between about 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Police also want to hear from anyone who may have seen Schad or the two to three people who were walking with him at the time. Schad was Native American, of heavy build with long, black straight hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and dark jeans, police say.
Investigators ask anyone with information to call police at 801-799-3000 or Tips for Cash at 801-799-INFO, or email tipsforcasbh@slcgov.com. Callers may remain anonymous.
