DENTON, Texas — Denton native George U. Hubbard's book, "When the Saints Came Marching in: A History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Denton, Texas, 1958-2008," chronicles Mormon history in the greater Denton area. The church began with a handful of members in November 1959 and quickly encompassed Collin, Cooke, Denton, Montague and Wise counties. Today there are more than 10,000 who worship in dozens of meetinghouses that dot the area."This is more than a history of the church in this area," Hubbard said. "It is a story of the spiritual side of many of the educators, business, professional and community leaders as well as ordinary men and women, each of whom contributed to the substantial, yet stable, growth of the church in the Denton area during the past 50 years."Having been born and raised in Denton and having done considerable exploring into church history since my wife and I joined the church in 1951, I have a very special interest in the local history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Denton."There will be a book-signing 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Porter Investments, 1204 W. University Ave., Suite 400, Denton.
