BEIJING — First-time Olympian swimmer Lacey Nymeyer finished sixth in her semifinals of the women's 100-meter freestyle Thursday in Beijing, taking her out of the competition. The Mormon swimmer arrived at the finish 1.04 seconds behind fellow American, and first-place finisher, Natalie Coughlin.
Nymeyer was part of the silver-medal-winner U.S. 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay team earlier this week.Nymeyer placed third in the 100-meter
freestyle at U.S. Olympic Trials, which earned her a spot on the
4-by-100-meter freestyle relay. But, a few days later, she was bumped
up to second in the individual race after winner Dara Torres withdrew
from the event, giving Nymeyer a chance to swim in Beijing.
