The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square has released a new CD celebrating the hymns of the Restoration and honoring its founder."Praise to the Man: Songs Honoring the Prophet Joseph" is a collection of 12 hymns that, according to a news release, "is perhaps more uniquely 'Mormon' than any album the choir has released before" with hymns and arrangements recorded by the choir for the first time. The selected hymns commemorate the life of LDS Church founder Joseph Smith and the events of the Restoration. The stage is set with an energetic rendition of "The Morning Breaks," a hymn with words written by early apostle Parley P. Pratt that heralds "the dawning of a brighter day," followed by "Praise to the Man" and "Joseph Smith's First Prayer.""This is a unique project which we are very honored to bring to Latter-day Saint homes and families," said music director Mack Wilberg. "Our hope is that this wonderful music will uplift and inspire individuals as they study the life and times of this remarkable man." Two of the songs — "This Is My Beloved Son" and "On a Golden Springtime" — are from the Children's Songbook, "so that there is something on the CD for even our youngest listeners," said Wilberg. The rest are from the LDS hymnbook.Listeners will find several reverent and peaceful renditions of hymns familiar to Latter-day Saints."Praise to the Man" (2008) is produced under the Mormon Tabernacle Choir record label.Email to a friend.
