SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday when he collided with a semitrailer that was leaving a tire dealership.
Khalid R. Al Rekabi, 38, was traveling east on 2100 South about 4:45 p.m. when a truck pulled out of the driveway of Quality Tire Co., 1335 W. 2100 South, to go west, according to Salt Lake police.
Traffic had backed up because the truck was blocking the lanes. Rekabi drove his motorcycle around traffic to pass, police said. He skidded and collided with the side of the trailer. Rekabi was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Salt Lake police detective Mike Hamideh said it was unclear whether the man was wearing a helmet.
