SALT LAKE CITY — Utah residents interested in two open positions on the Bureau of Land Management's Resource Advisory Council have until July 8 to apply.
The 15-member council has open positions representing wild horse groups or environmental, historical, archaeological and dispersed recreation.
Resource Advisory Councils advise the federal agency on public land issues and include members such as conservationists, ranchers, outdoor recreationists, state and local officials, or tribal representatives.
The diverse makeup of the council is intended to provide a balanced outlook to help the land management agency achieve its goals.
Juan Palma, the BLM's Utah state director, said the resource council is way to keep residents informed and engaged in critical issues facing management of public lands.
Individuals may nominate themselves or others to serve on the council. Nominees must be Utah residents and will be judged on training, education and knowledge of the geographic area. All nominations must be accompanied by two letters of reference from any represented interests or organizations; a completed background information nomination form; and any other information that demonstrates the nominee's qualifications. Nomination forms are available online from BLM offices or in person.
Nominations should be sent by July 8 to Sherry Foot, special programs coordinator, Bureau of Land Management, Utah State Office, 440 W. 200 South, Suite 500, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101, 801-539-4195.
