Utah State basketball: Pair of Cavemen excited about being Aggies

They’ve been playing basketball together since the fifth grade, and now they’ll be able to play together in college. Following completion of their upcoming senior seasons, American Fork’s Marcel Davis and Quincy Bair will both make their way to Utah State University.

“It’s something we’ve both wanted for a long time,” Davis said. “We’ve grown real close since we were both young, and now to get to play together in college. It’s really a dream come true for both of us.”

“We’re more than best friends, we‘re like brothers,” added Bair. “We play real well together on the court, but we also do everything together off the court, so it’s a great thing that we can both go to Utah State.”

Both players are coming off successful junior years, where they led the Cavemen to the 5A state championship game against Lone Peak. They went on to be named as first-team all-state performers and are easily two of the best prospects in the state.

Davis was the first of the two to commit to Utah State. After a very promising sophomore year, Utah State and other colleges came calling, interested in acquiring Davis' skills.

His offer from the Aggies came early last summer. He spent three days thinking about whether to take the offer or wait a bit more.

“I wasn’t totally sure that I’d commit after they offered, but after spending more time at their camp, I decided that it really was the only place I wanted to play,” he said.

Davis grew up really liking both Utah State and BYU. He was receiving a lot of attention from both BYU and Utah at the time of his decision to commit, with other schools likely to express interest as well.

“I thought about waiting, but in the end, I just love everything that Utah State has to offer,” said the 6-foot-2 point guard. “I love the coaching staff a lot. Chris Jones was my primary recruiter, and I really built a strong relationship with him. Coach (Stew) Morrill is the best. He’s a great coach, but he’s also a real funny guy, which I like a lot about him. He’s always cracking jokes and is real fun to be around. He‘s built a winning program and takes his team to the NCAA tournament every year.”

Davis has been up to Utah State quite a bit over the past year and loves the college environment there. He also loves the fact that he’ll be able to compete immediately for a starting spot.
