Questar Gas asks for rate reduction

SALT LAKE CITY — Despite the cooler than normal temperatures, it may soon cost less to heat a home in Utah. On Thursday, Questar Gas asked the Public Service Commission of Utah to reduce natural gas rates by $9.7 million.

At least twice a year, Questar Gas and the PSC use third-party forecasts of natural gas prices to estimate how much the utility's rates should be adjusted to cover anticipated costs of buying natural gas for its customers. If approved, the rate cut would lower the typical homeowner’s annual bill by about $7.34 — or 1 percent — beginning June 1.
