MIDVALE — A Midvale city councilman has been charged with felony burglary and theft after police say he broke into another man's garage.
Wayne Sharp, 46, was charged in 3rd District Court this week with two counts of burglary and one count of theft, all third-degree felonies.
On Feb. 26, a man came home, 336 W. Wasatch Street (8000 South), and found the window to his detached garage was broken and the door to his shed removed, according to court documents.
Inside the garage and the shed, he discovered a welding machine, a cement mixer and several other items were missing. The homeowner later spotted the cement mixer at Sharp's home.
Sharp told police he gave the welding machine away as payment to another person for helping him steal the machine and "the scrapping of several other items and that he did not intend to return them" to the owner, according to court papers.
