SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say tried to carry a large amount of marijuana onto a bus Thursday became the fourth man in just six weeks to be arrested at the Greyhound terminal for the same thing.
Security officers at the Greyhound terminal near 600 West and 300 South smelled the odor of marijuana coming from a man who was exiting the bus about 7 p.m. Thursday. When they tried to stop him, he dropped his duffel bag containing 8 pounds of marijuana and ran, a Salt Lake police report states.
A K-9 officer located Montez Halsell, 33, nearby and arrested him for investigation of drug distribution.
On March 17, Greyhound employees smelled marijuana in a passenger's bag. When confronted, he ran away with his bag but was later located. That passenger had 11 pounds of marijuana in his bag.
On Feb. 9, two men trying to get on a bus were arrested after Greyhound employees noticed that two bags smelled like marijuana. Ten to 12 pounds of pot were found inside the bags and the owners were also arrested.
