WEST VALLEY CITY — A 12-year-old boy was sent to the hospital Thursday after being hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk on his way to school.
The accident happened a little after 8 a.m. near Hunter Junior High School, 3786 S. 6000 West. The boy suffered a broken pelvis and arm as well as internal injuries and was being kept overnight at the hospital in serious condition, said West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Powell.
Two cars were stopped at the crosswalk to make a left turn. The 12-year-old ran between the vehicles and was hit by a third vehicle driving through the crosswalk on the way to the same school, Powell said. The accident was witnessed by a number of other students and a few adults, he said.
The 36-year-old male driver, who was taking his son to the same school, was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
