RIVERDALE, Weber County — A tanker traveling on southbound I-15 taking the I-84 eastbound ramp near Riverdale rolled Saturday morning and spilled its load.

"The truck came into the turn too fast for conditions, overturned, spilling approximately 34 tons of magnesium chloride, which is the same solution that they use to salt the roads here in Utah," said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Chris Simmons.

The containers burst open on impact and spilled all over the roadway, including I-15. It was closed while crews cleaned up the mess.

Most of the material spilled down an adjacent hill. Lane closures will be in place for approximately two to three days, according Simmons, while environmental crews clean the spill.

The ramp to eastbound I-84 is shut down until further notice while crews fix the damage caused by the crash, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

The driver was taken to McKay-Dee hospital with minor injuries.
